2003 - A Dream
2004 - Foundations
2005 - Complete
Not too long ago, KIRF had a deep ambition to build a large hospital
to serve the people of Kashmir. The charity had all the ingredients ready. Land, plans and local community support. In the summer of 2003 we launched an appeal at a fund raising dinner in London. The event was a huge success and raised more than £30,000. This kick-started the whole fund raising drive for the hospital in a huge way.
Today, just two years later, the construction is finished in rapid time and more importantly at a very low cost as compared to other
projects of this size and nature. KIRF is deeply committed at rapidly delivering high quality and high value-for-money projects to ensure that donor funds go so much further.
KIRF Community Hospital is a 50 bed hospital that will serve a local population of approximately 150,000 people. In an area where (a) 115
babies per thousand die at birth and (b) 85 mothers per thousand die while giving birth, KIRF just had to help address some of the highest infant mortality rates in the world.
The Out-Patients Department at the KIRF Community Hospital is now operational, marking the first phase of the hospital opening. The construction effort was extensive, but only just the beginning. KIRF needs funds to help complete the full operational capability of the hospital. In addition the hospital needs urgent funds towards the monthly running costs.
